Only 4 minutes’ walk from the hotel, Singapore Art Museum, SAM to its friends, occupies a stately former school dating back to the 19th century. Focusing on contemporary art from Southeast Asia and across the continent, SAM’s significant collections make it one of the region’s major modern art museums. The building retains symbols of its previous incarnation as a Catholic boys school, including courtyards and a grand dome topped with a cross. Seminars are presented in the former chapel. Artworks on display range from photography by renowned Cambodian artist Vandy Rattana to sculptures by China’s Zhou Xiaohu.
